Does Spraying Water On Plants Leaves Help?

May 6, 2020 by Hayley Leave a Comment

Using a plant mister or sprayer water on plants leaves can help it to retain the moisture it’s not getting from its natural environment.

For those of you who are asking What is a plant mister? A plant mister is a device used to quite literally spray water. It by no means replaces original watering methods but it can add moisture to the air around plants that need higher levels of humidity.

We all love to keep houseplants but we don’t always think about the environment the plant needs when we buy it. Instead we might buy one that looks nice or even just pick up a random one from the shop. But plants have different requirements depending on where they come from and one of these requirements is to do with humidity.

Some plants need higher levels of humidity than others. These plants tend to be plants that are naturally found in the tropics and ones that come from rainier environments. If you’re keeping this kind of plant in your home then the chances are that you’ll need to help increase the humidity levels for your plant in some way. One way to do this is by spraying water on the leaves of your plant. This will increase the humidity levels around your plants and will help them to retain more moisture.

However its important to note that you don’t want to do this with every type of plant. Some plants don’t like to be moist at all and much prefer drier conditions. An example of a plant like that is a cactus. These plants grow in the desert and are used to arid environments. Because of this they don’t need you to mist them and if you do so it can actually be damaging to the plant.

So yes, spraying water on plants leaves helps but not for all plants. Make sure you look at the individual leaves of each plant before you decide to mist your plant or increase the humidity levels in another way.
