Peperomia Prostrata, otherwise known as a string of turtles of turtle’s string is an almost succulent like plant with delicate round leaves. It grows in a vining formation which makes it a great hanging plant or perfect for a shelf that needs a bit more depth.
How how do you treat a Peperomia Prostrata? How does it like to be kept? These are important questions to ask if you are going to care for a little string of turtles in your home.
So first thing’s first, we need to talk about light. A Peperomia Prostrata does not need bright direct light. It prefers things a little shadier and thrives under dappled light. So when looking for a place for this plant in your home try to find an area with low to medium light. An east or northern facing windowsill is the perfect solution for your plant.
Secondly we need to look at water. Watering is one of the most important parts of houseplant care and the string of turtles is no different. With this plant you need to be careful not to overwater it. Too much water can cause the plant to rot and leaves to drop off. It’s always better to slightly underwater the string of dolphins rather than to overwater it. Wait for the top layer of soil to dry out before rewatering your plant.
Next is the humidity. Although they don’t need super high humidity all the time, a higher humidity environment will benefit this plant greatly. Try considering using a plant mister or humidifier to amp up the humidity around the plant.
Finally let’s take a look at soil. As this is a plant that does not like to be too wet it’s important that you provide it with adequately draining soil. Try using a well draining potting mix with either perlite or peat moss to help your soil drain enough between waterings.
