Autumn Ferns, Ostrich Ferns and Asparagus Ferns will all grow to slightly different heights. There is no one height for all ferns, you might find some species of ferns will only grow to around twelve inches in height while others can become as large as six feet. Some ferns will also grow as wide as they do tall.
Let’s take a look at some of the individual ferns and see what size they can grow to.
Asparagus Fern
It might come as a surprise to you since they are so small and delicate when you buy them but an asparagus fern can grow to an impressive height of 2.5 meters.
Autumn Fern
The Autumn Fern is slightly smaller on the scale of ferns by growing to approximately 18 inches tall. The Autumn Fern will also tend to grow as wide as it does tall giving it a bushier appearance.
Ostrich Fern
The Ostrich Fern is more of a medium sized fern and will tend to grow to anywhere between three to six feet.
Birds Nest Fern
The birds nest fern is another fern with quite a range. You can expect the fronds of this plant to grow anywhere from two feet all the way up to five feet.
Western Sword Fern
This type of fern can cover a large area of land and is able to grow to an impressive five feet. At five feet the Western Sword Fern is a good choice to make if you want to give your garden a more jungly feel but are unable to use tropical plants due to the climate you live in.
The most important thing you want to remember is that in order for a fern to grow to its maximum height it needs to have the ideal growing conditions and this part is up to you. Make sure that the growing conditions you provide your fern with are optimal for its needs. And remember that not all ferns require the same type of conditions. Be sure to research the individual ferns in order to help them grow the most effectively.
