Peperomia plants are plants that can survive in low light but this doesn’t mean that they are necessarily low light plants. As they can survive in dimmer lighting conditions Peperomia can be a great option for the shady regions in your home that need brightening up with a bit of greenery.
However Peperomia plants don’t always do so well in low light conditions. If they aren’t receiving enough light you might notice the beautiful patterns on the leaf fade or leaves might even start to drop off.
What your Peperomia wants is mid to bright light without receiving direct sunlight. If the sun is too bright or too strong it may scorch the leaves and may also cause fading to the patterns. Try placing your Peperomia plants on east or west facing windowsills. During the summer they may get enough light on a north facing window and during the winter they might be able to tolerate the full light of a south facing window. (These recommendations are based on the assumption that you’re in the northern hemisphere, if you’re in the southern hemisphere simply swap this advice around).
If you don’t have the luxury of having different windowsills to choose from then try moving your plants further away or closer to the windows in your home instead and see where your Peperomia plants do best. If you have them in a spot and you find that they’re not doing too well then don’t be afraid to move them. Lots of people move their plants around until they find the perfect spot, but if you do find a spot where your plant is doing well then try not to move them.
Another question we get asked about these adorable little plants is should I mist Peperomia? Be sure to read our article to find out the answer to that one.
So in answer to are Peperomia low light? We can say that they may survive in low light conditions but in order for them to thrive move them to medium to bright light conditions while avoiding direct sunlight.
