Peperomia Asperula Care Guide

Peperomia Asperula is a fun succulent variety of the Peperomia plant. It has folded leaves giving it a unique appearance and is native to Peru. This plant is easy enough to care for being a succulent and doesn’t require too much attention from you which makes it a perfect plant for beginners. Light

Your Peperomia Asperula will be able to tolerate brighter light but it is still better to keep it away from constant direct sunlight. Instead opt for medium to bright indirect light, and partial or dappled light. This plant prefers to be kept away from low light conditions so make sure it’s getting enough light but make sure it’s not exposed to direct sun all day long.

Watering

As this plant is a member of the Peperomia family and because it’s a succulent it should come as no surprise to you that it doesn’t like to be overwatered. Plants like Peperomia Asperula store water in their thick leaves which means they can go for longer periods of time between waterings compared to a Peace Lily or Calathea. Watering them too regularly can be damaging to the plant so it’s important that you allow the soil to dry out between waterings to avoid root rot.

Soil

You will need a well draining mix for this plant as the Peperomia Asperula does not like to sit in soggy soil. Try using a regular potting mix with cactus soil and added perlite. Sand and loamy mixtures will also work great for this plant.

Humidity

Your Peperomia Asperula will do well with the humidity levels in most households although it prefers medium humidity. Keep it away from radiators and heating systems as this can cause the air to dry out and the humidity levels to drop too low.

Temperature

These plants prefer to be kept warm, ideally at a temperature above 16°C. Keep them away from droughts, radiators and heating systems. They also prefer to be kept at a consistent temperature year round rather than allowing the temperature to dip or rise too dramatically.

Fertiliser

A half strength fertiliser no more than once a fortnight will be sufficient for your Peperomia Asperula. Make sure you only fertilise your plant during the growing season and leave it during the winter months.

Repotting

Repotting should be done during the spring and you shouldn’t need to do this more than once a year. These plants will not grow very large and prefer to be slightly root bound so repotting often shouldn’t be necessary.

Propagation can be done by either leaf or stem cutting.
